80. Berner Anästhesie-Symposium: (Un)consciousness, neural networks & cognition
The brain is THE target organ of anesthesia. In this regard, the fact that specific electroencephalographic (EEG) knowledge is not necessary to acquire the FMH in anesthesia is staggering. This is especially so, given that the mechanism of action of anesthetics, of the loss & return of consciousness and its specific related changes in brain activity are now well described and reported in the recent literature. Nonetheless, Switzerland is no exception in this regard; it is an international knowledge gap in anesthesia that is not limited to the anesthesia resident. This is why we have decided to invite distinguished basic and clinical neuroscientists to close some of our knowledge gaps.
